From the early 1500's to the mid 1700's, India was under the rule of the Mughal dynasty. The Mughals were admirers of the arts, food, clothing, architecture and jewelry. Gemstones, pearls and enamel were heavily featured in jewelry designs. During this reign, gemstone carving flourished. Gemstone carving requires years of experience and training. Today, these tiny works of art are enjoying a comback as one way for a technology driven world to connect, and engage, with a unique, handcrafted artform.
